二十二年前，从天庭偷溜出来的仙女三圣母（于莉 饰）携着一盏神灯下了凡间，遇上了书生刘彦昌（郭晋安 饰），二人就这样相爱了，可是天凡有别，触犯了天庭法规的三圣母被关压在了山中，留下了书生和孩子，以及不知所踪的宝莲灯。 二十二年后，三圣母的孩子刘沉香（林志颖 饰）已长成了乖巧懂事的少年，照顾着y一蹶不振的父亲，且向隐士田藟（徐锦江 饰）学习法术。小仙女踏雪（沈傲君 饰）奉皇母娘娘之命寻找宝莲灯，偶遇了山间采药的沉香，二人一拍即合。而这时，踏雪无意间发现了一盏看似普通却暗藏玄机的灯，而它正是宝莲灯。修好它的田藟不小心触到了开关，把踏雪和沉香送到了22年前，沉香知道了自己的身世，也萌发了救母的念头，而前路漫漫，困难重重……
